KRM Is Creative in Spite of COVID-19

Kentucky Refugee Ministries found a way to be creative in spite of COVID-19.

In 2019, KRM planned “Art Makes Home" as a celebration of their 30 year anniversary in 2020. The original thought was to exhibit art indoors around the city or perhaps have receptions and shows, inviting the public. After the pandemic, they had to be creative, so they decided to make some of the artwork into banners to be displayed in public places around town.

The above pastel was made into a banner and installed at the University of Louisville Bridwell Art Library. It turned out to be the first of three banners produced from my artwork to be installed around Louisville, KY.

Creative in spite of COVID-19, Kentucky Refugee Ministries made a banner of this artwork which is now hanging on a fence at Joe Creason Park, so the public can view it from the road.

Another art banner will be displayed at the Family Health Center on Broadway in downtown Louisville. The title of this work, Celebrate Color, refers not only to colors used in the artwork but also to the celebration of the different cultures in our city.

In March, I will be having a solo show at Kore Gallery in downtown Louisville, KY. Many of the images for the show were created with permission from the archives of KRM, and a percentage of the work sold will benefit their work as they help refugees resettle in our city.

Thanks, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, for being creative in so many ways throughout 30 years of helping refugees in Kentucky. Here’s to 30 more years!
